The U of C Campus Greens strive to promote and represent the Green Party at the University of Calgary. We do this through our actions, where we tackle the latest environmental, social, political or economical cause and relate it back to Green Party policy.

At the start of each session, we are presented with a few good opportunities to get involved with current causes by our contributing members and decide upon one of them to take on as a group for that session. Throughout the session, we make all of our information available online so that the campus community can benefit from our work not only during that session but even long after the action is over. The information below details actions that we have taken on or have in development. The U of C Campus Greens strive to promote and represent the Green Party at the University of Calgary. Kyoto: OK not KO

To kick off the fall session, we promoted some of the benefits behind the ratification of the Kyoto protocol, with the help of Albertans for Ratifying Kyoto (ARK). In October, we did some tabling in MacEwan Student Centre food court, presenting students with options on how they can reduce their greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time save themselves money. We followed that up with a debate on Kyoto, which included politicians and representatives from health and labour from across Alberta. One of the many messages that came from that debate was that more public forums and activities should be organized to get people talking about Kyoto. We are currently planning to follow up the debate with an even more involved and more balanced debate on Kyoto, this time restricted to Alberta's political leaders. We are hoping to work with other political clubs on campus to balance the event and hoping to bring elected officials from the University area to debate the issue. Currently, we have our members attending Kyoto related events, gatehring support from other groups and events. Here is a resource base of actions that people can do to become Kyoto-compliant. How does this relate back to the Green Party platform? U of C degree, brought to you by Pepsi

Some interest has been expressed in a campaign to get Pepsi off campus however the peoplepower to fuel an action has yet to materialize. At the start of the fall session , we were approached by a Mount Royal College student who has made it her class project to study the legalities of the U of C's Pepsi contract. At our 1st meeting in September, we discussed some ways that an ad campaign could be conducted on campus. Farmer, earth and bird friendly coffee, that's all we ask

In our first year on campus, we partnered with the campus chapter of World University Services of Canada to promote fair trade and organic coffee on campus. Since then, an on-campus vendor has been encouraged to bring on a fair trade and organic coffee and we have developed a resource base for students either looking to get an ethical cup of joe or wanting to encourage further distribution of fair trade/organic/shade grown coffee on campus.
